MIDDLETON MEN JAILED FOR 12 YEARS FOR RAPE IN MANCHESTER ALLEYWAY
Juan Quinones from Aspell Close, Middleton, received a 12-year prison term after being convicted of raping an 18-year-old woman in an alleyway near Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester, on May 16, 2021.The 24-year-old was taken into custody following an investigation spurred by a CCTV appeal.
His accomplice, 25-year-old Brian Jalo from Salford, was also handed the same sentence.
The incident originated after Quinones and Jalo met the victim and her friend the day before, exchanging contact details through Instagram.
The following night, they approached the women in Manchester city centre.
After the victim returned to her hotel, she was later attacked and raped in an alley as she left alone, during which her mobile phone was stolen.
Police used CCTV footage to identify and arrest Quinones and Jalo, with the victim’s courage playing a vital role in securing their guilty verdicts.
The court delivered the sentence on December 21 at Manchester Crown Court, emphasizing the vile and predatory behavior involved, described as cold and calculated.
Detective Constable Stuart Kassim praised the victim’s bravery and the efficiency of police work in bringing the offenders to justice.
The trial also saw a third man acquitted of aiding and abetting the crime.
The ruling underscores the serious nature of sexual offenses and highlights the police force’s commitment to achieving justice for victims of such crimes.
